About Our PearlsThe Pearls of OHARA PEARL
The Beauty of Pearls
OHARA PEARL jewelry features Akoya pearls from Ise‑Shima in Mie Prefecture, South Sea pearls cultured in Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and black Tahitian pearls cultured in Tahiti and French Polynesia.
Akoya pearls, built from many fine layers of nacre, have long been cherished for their exceptional luster.
South Sea pearls, increasingly popular in recent years, are known for their exotic tones, while Tahitian pearls captivate with a wide spectrum of colors, from grey and black to blue, green and purple.
We also offer rare Akoya pearls of 9 mm and above, as well as premium grades such as Tennyo, Hanadama, Venus, Phoenix and Peacock.

No Two Are Alike.
That Is the Mark of a True Pearl.
Every pearl differs slightly in color, shape and size.
Each one is the result of a perfect collaboration between human skill, the oyster and the sea. Without any one of them, such beauty could not exist.
At OHARA PEARL, we hand‑select each pearl one by one, choosing the pearl that best suits each design, so every piece of jewelry brings out the full beauty of the pearl.

Four Keys to Pearl QualityQuality
01Nacre Thickness
Nacre thickness refers to the depth of the pearl layers coating the nucleus. Generally, thicker nacre is considered better, as it also makes the pearl more durable.
02Luster
Luster is the brilliance of a pearl. A strong, bright luster is valued over a dull one, and it depends on the thickness, evenness and translucency of the nacre.
03Shape
Pearls are a gift of nature, created by living oysters. No two are the same, and some have tiny natural marks known as “dimples”, which give each pearl a gentle, organic character.
04Color
The color of an Akoya pearl comes from many overlapping layers of nacre, creating a deep glow. South Sea pearls are known for their exotic tones, and Tahitian pearls for their wide range of colors, from grey and black to blue, green and purple. At OHARA PEARL, we carefully select pearls with rich depth of color.
